The Little Prince

“The Little Prince” (Le Petit Prince in French) by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry. It is a novella that was first published in 1943 and has since become one of the most beloved and widely translated books in the world.

The Little Prince

The story follows a young prince who travels from planet to planet, encountering various strange and interesting characters, including a vain rose, a fox who teaches him about friendship, and a pilot who has crash-landed in the desert. Through his travels, the little Prince learns important lessons about love, responsibility, and the meaning of life.

The book is often seen as a philosophical allegory and has been interpreted in many different ways. Its themes and messages continue to resonate with readers of all ages and cultures worldwide.

This little book is easy to read and could easily be passed off as just an interesting book, but if you read it carefully, you will discover an ocean of wisdom.

You can easily find it on Amazon and Audible.

I recommend The Little Prince as a board book

When I first read this book as a child, I found it very interesting because it had a lot of adventure, and I wanted to travel. When I read it as a teenager, I discovered the characters’ different personalities and wanted to know more about the people I met. When I read it again in my 20s, I discovered the deeper meaning of feelings, and when I read it as a parent, I found lessons about how to be a better parent.
This is a really great book with a lot of wisdom and depth.

Here are a few of my favorite quotes.

And now here is my secret, a very simple secret: It is only with the heart that one can see rightly; what is essential is invisible to the eye.

The most beautiful things in the world cannot be seen or touched, they are felt with the heart.

Grown-ups never understand anything by themselves, and it is tiresome for children to be always and forever explaining things to them

You become responsible, forever, for what you have tamed.

But eyes are blind. You have to look with the heart.

I am who I am, and I have the need to be.

He has never smelled a flower. He has never looked at a star. He has never loved any one. He has never done anything in his life but add up figures. And all day he says over and over, just like you: ‘I am busy with matters of consequence!’ And that makes him swell up with pride. But he is not a man–he is a mushroom!

Important characters

“The Little Prince” features several memorable characters. Here are some of the key players:

  1. The Little Prince: He is the main character of the story, a curious and innocent boy who is trying to understand the world around him. He has a deep sense of wonder and a desire to learn about the universe and the people in it. Throughout the story, he encounters various characters who teach him important lessons about life and love.
  2. The Pilot: The narrator of the story is a pilot who crashes his plane in the desert and meets the Little Prince. He becomes the Prince’s friend and helps him on his journey. The Pilot represents the adult world and provides a contrast to the Little Prince’s childlike innocence.
  3. The Rose: The Rose is a beautiful flower that the Little Prince cares for deeply. She is vain and demanding but also vulnerable and in need of love. The Rose represents the people in our lives who are important to us and the importance of nurturing our relationships.
  4. The Fox: The Fox is a wise and gentle creature who teaches the Little Prince about the importance of building relationships. He encourages the Prince to tame him and explains that once he is tamed, they will have a special bond that is unlike any other. The Fox represents the importance of meaningful connections and the value of building trust and understanding.
  5. The Snake: The Snake is a mysterious creature that appears near the end of the story. He is a symbol of death and the impermanence of life. He offers to help the Little Prince return to his planet, but the Prince ultimately decides to sacrifice himself in order to save his friend, the Pilot.
  6. The King: The King is a character that the Little Prince meets on a planet. He is an arrogant and selfish ruler who demands that everyone obey him. The King represents power and authority and the dangers of abusing them.
  7. The Conceited Man: The Conceited Man is a character the Little Prince meets on another planet. He is obsessed with his own appearance and considers himself the most beautiful man in the world. He represents vanity and the dangers of being too focused on oneself.
  8. The Drunkard: The Drunkard is a character that the Little Prince meets on another planet. He is addicted to alcohol and drinks to forget his problems. He represents addiction and the dangers of using substances to escape from reality.
  9. The Businessman: The Businessman is a character that the Little Prince meets on another planet. He is obsessed with counting stars and accumulating wealth, but he doesn’t enjoy any of it. He represents materialism and the dangers of being too focused on money and possessions.
  10. The Lamplighter: The Lamplighter is a character that the Little Prince meets on another planet. He has a duty to light a lamp every day at sunset, but he complains that the day is too short and he never has enough time to rest. He represents duty and the dangers of being trapped in a cycle of routine and obligation.

These characters and others help create a rich and memorable world in “The Little Prince.” Each contributes to the story’s themes and messages uniquely and meaningfully.
